The Green Cloud: tomorrow's IT model delivered today

The pay-per-use, highly flexible, and shared solutions offered by Cloud Computing are perfectly aligned with clients’ current business needs and will therefore have a very strong impact on the IT market in the coming years.
To become a Cloud-ready organisation, it is necessary to collaborate with a Cloud Enabler company that can deliver a complete package of offerings to deal with this new challenge:

  • Consulting support to understand what the benefits of migration to the Cloud can bring to your organisation. Assessment of business functions that can easily migrate to the Cloud and identify those that are not easily Cloud-enabled. It is important to understand how regulatory and compliancy issues are addressed in the Cloud solution. Often, the first step is to design a roadmap to enable Cloud agility within your organisation.
  • A range of expertise in Cloud Integration Services hosted both in our own data centres and working with leading Cloud providers to deliver the optimal choice between a Private Cloud — that give tightly controlled access to the flexibility and the scalability of Cloud technologies whilst maintaining a dedicated and well-structured infrastructure platform — and Community-based Clouds — where a group of organisations can benefit from a common functionality Shared Cloud, to take full advantage of maximum resource sharing benefits — or a Hybrid Cloud that reflects the real-world needs of your organisation.
  • A range of functional services, that were often seen as too expensive for a single client but now become available even for smaller companies or internal departments (such as advanced SAP testing services, data migration services, Product Lifecycle Management services, or pay-per- use online workplace solutions).
  • A Cloud Partner with the experience and expertise to Integrate Cloud delivery with your existing legacy IT systems and the forward-thinker you need to become your Cloud broker and integrator in the future.

As part of a new ‘after crisis’ growth model, each organisation has to develop the know-how and technological expertise to minimise its operational impact on the environment (Green for IT) and, through IT solutions, to optimise their environmental efficiency (IT for Green).

In 2010, many organisations are starting their journey towards environmental excellence. Green IT is designed to harness this IT transformation, which consists in integrating energy efficiency best practices and minimising carbon impact — including carbon-neutral solutions. These best practices include:

  • Transformation services and solutions, including sustainability maturity assessment (sustainability roadmap), operational measurement systems (Intelligent Sustainability), Change Management Programme (Sustainable Cultural Behaviours), Digital Company (Sustainable
Working Environment), Business Transformation (Green Procurement, Green Supply-Chain, and Green Manufacturing), in order to provide the best balance between performance and Green efficiency.
  • IT Green Transformation Projects, including application portfolio rationalisation, workplace energy efficiency, Green infrastructure transformation using the new technologies of virtualisation, Green data centres where applications are hosted in an environmentally friendly way. To further decrease the carbon emitted by hosting applications, it is necessary to implement effective Green cooling technologies in the data centres. Through these various solutions, the IT carbon footprint can be dramatically abated.

More specifically, Green Cloud enables the delivery of Cloud solutions with a zero-carbon footprint.
