Zero Tolerance
Concept
  • Zero tolerance relates to an enterprise’s policy and conduct toward operational transgressions or fraud. With zero tolerance, any infraction of existing values, laws, and regulations―regardless of ignorance or even extenuating circumstances―will be met with full punishment.
  • The term may be used in general or with reference to a particular category of transgressions, such as a zero-tolerance policy toward alcohol use or fraud stock-dealing within a company.

Trajectory

  • Zero tolerance is typically enacted by organizations against an action  performed on organization-controlled property. Many organizations avoid these policies because it binds those in authority to an action, regardless of circumstances. The policy must be written extremely explicitly or it may have negative legal ramifications.
  • Supporters of zero tolerance policies claim that such policies are required to create an appropriately honest environment.
  • This also applies to the corporate world: legal and financial compliance, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, public and community affairs, investor relations, stakeholder communications, brand management, environmental affairs, sustainability, socially responsible? investing, and corporate philanthropy
