Concept
Crowdsourcing is the act of taking a function that is
done by employees of a company and outsourcing it so that external
people in a network can collaborate in this function.
It takes
advantages of the possibilities for mass collaboration provided by Web
2.0 applications, and seeks to achieve the contribution of multiple
sources to improve innovation processes.
These collaborations
can sometimes be paid or rewarded in some way, like awards when it
refers to investigation within a scientific community.
A
‘society’ may refer to particular people, such as a specific ethnic
group or to a broad cultural group. It can also refer to an organised
group of people as a community, associated together for religious,
benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other
purposes and sharing this common identity.
Trajectory
This
kind of collaboration will continue to arise as Web 2.0 platforms
develop.
In scientific environments it will prove to be an
important way of knowledge sharing and effort unification to achieve one
same goal.
Issues
In free collaborations, output is
not guaranteed as there is no contract or commitment on the task.
Quality
and implication of the contributors is also an issue in certain
projects.
