Concept
Federated identity provides the ability to manage
identity and access across several organisations that have established a
trusting relationship with one another or with at least one of them.
Identity
providers are service providers that rely on identity providers through
delegation of authentication and distribution of user attributes.
Trajectory
In
B2C, service providers gain access to third-party user attributes with a
higher level of trust (a signed attribute).
B2C users are also
in control of their personal data. Whenever a service provider asks for
personal data, users can choose which data to disclose. Internet users
can get rid of the inconvenience of form-filling.
In B2B, the
enterprises will use these technologies combined with Software as a
Service (SaaS) to control access to externalised functions.
There
is a convergence of identity concepts in the B2B, B2C, and public
services areas.
The rise of Internet-based services (online
banking, email, rentals, eBay, online travel booking, online gaming,
distribution boards, etc.) has challenged the context-based identity
model, and now Cloud Computing, collaboration, and social networks will
most likely end it.
